You'll find the wildest whitewater in April and May in Cataract Canyon, Westwater Canyon and on the Dolores River (see trip descriptions above). Spring snowmelt lifts the water level and creates a challenging run. The river drops in July and the rapids are smaller, but still exciting.

Government permits require children to weigh at least 50 pounds before they can go on a Cataract Canyon or Westwater Canyon river trip. If your kids meet that limit they can go from about mid-July through October. (Rocky Mountain snowmelt creates challenging high water conditions in May and June.)
