| Dolores River |
This is a first class whitewater adventure with highly technical rapids ranging from class II to V depending on water level. Because the river running season is short on the Dolores, this trip can be done only in late April, May and sometimes early June if it's a good water year.
We leave Moab at 8:00 am on a shuttle to our put-in near Gateway, Colorado. Hold on as your boatman rows the NAVTEC raft through Stateline rapid, the biggest on our trip. Later we enter beautiful Gateway Canyon with a few mild rapids and a wide variety of landscapes and high desert cliffs. This is a very isolated river section and we rarely see other river runners. Our trip takes us past Beaver and Thompson canyons, home to man Anasazi Indian petroglyphs and remnants of old homesteads.
This 32-mile trip ends at Dewey Bridge just past the confluence of the Colorado and Dolores rivers. From here we shuttle back to Moab and the end of our trip. |
